Tracking/Polling Provides Vessel ETA Monitoring Service

Tracking Service

Constantly track vessels and their ETA

Not every vessel has the need for speed and consumption performance reports. For these vessels, AWT can provide a valuable tracking service—an indispensable tool for keeping track of a vessel’s location and monitoring its ETA. AWT will insert the vessel’s track into the AWT Route Optimization System, and using proprietary wind and wave data and vessel-specifc speed down algorithms, AWT can accurately predict when the vessel will arrive at port. The vessel’s ETA is continuously updated throughout the voyage as new weather or position data is received. These vessels are also included in the AWT Daily Fleet Status report that is sent via email so you can quickly see if the vessel is falling behind schedule or encountering bad weather. You can also access the voyage data through the AWT Web Portal at http://www.awtworldwide.com/login.asp.

AWT Global AIS Service

AWT offers the latest technology in vessel tracking with the introduction of its global Automated Identification System (AIS) service. While most current terrestrial-based AIS services provide only limited coverage nearby shorelines and ports, AWT has expanded its coverage with global satellite-based AIS data. This enables AWT to monitor maritime vessels beyond coastal regions in both a timely and cost-effective manner. AWT combines both the terrestrial-based and satellite-based AIS data to maximize the likelihood of consistent reporting from each vessel.

AIS is an automated tracking system used on ships for identifying and locating other vessels and is used in navigation primarily for collision avoidance. The AIS transponders automatically broadcast information, such as their position, speed, and heading at regular intervals.

Combining AIS with AWT Services

When position tracking is not enough and close monitoring of vessels’ ETAs is needed, customers can combine AWT Global AIS service with AWT’s Tracking Service. AWT inserts the vessel’s track into the AWT Route Optimization System. By combining these services:

  • AWT can accurately predict when the vessel will arrive at port.
  • The vessel’s ETA is continuously updated throughout the voyage as new weather or position data is received.
  • These vessels are also included in the AWT Daily Fleet Status Report that is sent via email to quickly see if the vessel is falling behind schedule or encountering bad weather.

AWT Global AIS can also be used with AWT’s GlobalView™ fleet management system to get more accurate information in a visual, easy-to-use format. By combining AIS reports with AWT’s voyage tracking service and GlobalView, fleet managers can closely monitor the safety, ETA and performance of their vessels.

Polling Service

Automated satellite positioning

AWT’s automated satellite position polling service uses the vessel’s Inmarsat unit to schedule positions to be sent to AWT based on the frequency desired by each client. With the approval of the vessel’s owner, using the Inmarsat number and the unit’s serial number, AWT will register the vessel with a land-based station and poll the vessel when desired. AWT’s Polling Service is an ideal tool to keep track of your vessel’s latest position and to monitor speed and heading.

Polling Alerts

Polling Alerts

Instant email notification

AWT’s Polling Alert service provides all the benefts of our Polling Service with the added capability to track the status of each vessel proactively through email. You have two service options that can be tailored to a specifc voyage. Choose to either receive an email each time a poll position is received, or just receive an email when the poll causes an alert to fire.

Specialized alerts

AWT offers three types of polling alerts to best suit your needs:

  • Speed Alert –When the reported speed is below the service speed by more than the voyage threshold amount
  • Wind Alert –When the observed winds are greater than or equal to the voyage threshold
  • ETA Alert –When the calculated ETA is later than the required ETA plus the threshold input for the voyage

Alert thresholds can be set for a trade run, but they can be overridden for a specifc voyage when needed.

Clients simply input the vessel’s trade route through http://www.awtworldwide.com/login.asp, set the thresholds, and input departure and arrival times. AWT’s system will do the rest. For vessels on coastal trade runs with time-sensitive ETAs, this is the optimal method to monitor the status of your feet.

“AWT’s Global AIS service greatly benefits us. When combined with GlobalView, not only does it give us positioning of the entire fleet on-screen, but you get the added bonus of overlaying the weather, clouds, visibility, waves, current speeds, etc., and this list goes on. It is an invaluable source of information and in a neat little package.”
